Creating a Trauma-Sensitive SEL Classroom Workshop

TWO-HOUR, FIVE-HOUR, AND CUSTOMIZED WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE.


THE TWO-HOUR WORKSHOP:

This workshop will equip educators with trauma-sensitive SEL strategies and tools to create supportive, resilient environments for students and educators.

Workshop Breakdown:

● Define trauma, its types, and its effects on learning and behavior.

● Deepen understanding of how trauma intersects with SEL competencies to foster resilience.

● Examine trauma theories, including The Polyvagal Theory.

● Learn to identify signs of trauma and explore real classroom cases.

● Recognize symptoms of compassion fatigue or burnout.

● Introduce practical self-care techniques to help educators maintain their well-being.

● Offer strategies for creating emotional safety and trust in the classroom.

● Share exercises for emotional regulation and grounding for both educators and students.


THE FIVE-HOUR WORKSHOP:

This workshop will deepen educators' understanding of trauma-sensitive strategies, focusing on emotional and academic well-being. 

Workshop Breakdown:

● Reflect on Teacher Identity

● Define trauma, its types, and its effects on learning and behavior.

● Deepen understanding of how trauma intersects with SEL competencies to foster resilience

● Examine trauma theories, such as The Polyvagal Theory.

● Learn to detect trauma signs and explore real classroom cases.

● Recognize signs of compassion fatigue or burnout

● Create a personalized self-care plan with boundary-setting and mindfulness strategies.

● Collaborate to create action plans for implementing trauma-sensitive strategies.

● Practice trauma-informed responses and reflect on real classroom scenarios.

● Experience emotional regulation exercises and discuss their benefits.

● Create an action plan for continued implementation.


THE CUSTOMIZED WORKSHOP:

The Customized Workshop evaluates your needs and builds a workshop that gives your educators and administrators the trauma-sensitive strategies for your learning communities and the tools needed to create trauma-sensitive SEL classrooms. The emphasis is on ensuring the emotional well-being and resilience of the individuals in attendance and those of their students. This could be a stand-alone workshop or a series of workshops over several weeks or months.

We will work together to build the workshop and define its objectives, which may include: 

● Determining the workshop length, platform, goals, outcomes, and components of the customized fillable workbook for participants

● Evaluating the needs of your learning environment 

● Determining the workshop content, which may or may not include topics such as defining trauma and its impact on learners, examining trauma theories, and identifying issues like burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue, as well as practicing and sharing mindful activities

● Building individualized Trauma-Sensitive Class Plans

● Creating individualized Teacher Self-Care Plans

● Other content as discussed and needed about the topic
